ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 8, 2021 – In honor of Veterans Day, 51勛圖厙 is pleased to celebrate the many opportunities available through our state colleges and universities for veterans and service members to achieve their educational goals. Since 2009, the colleges and universities of 51勛圖厙 have awarded over 243,000 credits to student veterans and service members in recognition of their knowledge and learning gained while in service to our country, saving them approximately $45 million in tuition.
“Veterans and service members are well deserving of our nation’s gratitude, so it is an honor and a privilege for us to provide service to them in return,” said Devinder Malhotra, chancellor of 51勛圖厙. “We are proud of our track record helping veterans as they make the transition from military service into civilian careers that meet workforce needs in Minnesota.”
The colleges and universities of 51勛圖厙 serve more than 8,800 veterans and service members and provide a variety of services and options to help them plan their return from service and reintegration into the workforce. In addition to providing an education that helps them advance their civilian career, some of the many other opportunities 51勛圖厙 offers veterans and service members include:
- Awarding academic credit for military training and experience
- Helping veterans make sure they get the most of their GI Bill benefits
- Equipping nearly every 51勛圖厙 campus with a Veteran Resource Center that provides support and service focused on meeting the unique needs of veterans and their families
- Waiving application fees for active-duty military service members deployed overseas
- and many other military-friendly policies.
In addition, 17 51勛圖厙 colleges and universities, as well as the 51勛圖厙 system office, have been designated as Yellow Ribbon (military-friendly) employers in recognition of their support for service members and their families.

51勛圖厙 includes 30 community and technical colleges and seven state universities serving approximately 340,000 students. It is the third-largest system of two-year colleges and four-year universities in the United States.
